SEO and Search Engine Marketing

Search Engine Marketing
Search Engine Marketing in simple words is marketing done through use of search engines.
Let us first define marketing, marketing is best defined as set of all the activities that are undertaken to know the wants and requirements of the prospective clients and meeting those wants and requirements in a profitable manner. Some people often take sales as synonym of marketing but sales is just a bit of all those activities that are undertaken to understand, plan, develop, reach and finally deliver it for a consideration to the clients.

Search engines are automated programs that return results or responses for a query made by a searcher by entering keyword(s) through an environment or website for example http://www.google.com or http://www.bing.com. etc. These search engines return snippets (which are URLs and brief descriptions) of the related websites.

We can use search engines like Google to help us reach people who are searching for what we are selling. Google also offers some products that it has developed for marketing purpose like AdWords and AdSense, one can use these products to reach out their prospective clients.

You may ask me Why Google?
Because Google is the most used search engine in the world, about 70% of the people from whole world use Google to search their queries.

How Google works.
Google has an environment or a webpage called http://www.google.com. When you enter a phrase or keyword(s) in the text field of www.google.com and press enter or click on Google Search button just below the text field, the Google algorithm (which is a program on Google server) comes into action and returns a list of relevant results called snippets. The Google algorithm ranks the snippets, which one would come first followed by which snippet and so on is decided by the Google Algo, which gets its data from the Google's Document Server.

What is Adwords?
When you enter a key word or a phrase in the google it displays some natural results or organic results with sponsored results in response to your query.
Organic or natural results are those results that are the natural selection of the Google Algo and are ranked according to their relevance with respect to the searched keyword(s) or phrase. And Sponsored results are those results that are displayed on the top 2 or 3 ranks and are also displayed on the right column of the search page.

About Adsense!
Adsense refers to those ads by Google that are displayed on Google's Partner Network. Google's partner network refers to all those websites which have partnered with Google to show ads relevant to the site's content, in return the Google pays its partners for every 'click on the ads' on their websites.
